Out of the Mouths of Babes

At bedtime, on Christmas Eve, I was getting my son settled, which means bedtime prayers and end of the day revelations.  I usually ask things like, 'what are you thankful for today?' or 'What happened in your world that was good?' Sometimes I'll ask him if he could change something from today, what would it be?' That last question allows me insight to any stresses he might be dealing with that wouldn't normally unfold on their own. As we were chatting on Christmas Eve, I was internally reflecting on my life and how blessed I was to have such a tender-hearted kid who is also so stubborn and strong. He's a pistol when he wants to be but always sweet and kind to the core.  That night, I told him that I must have done something wonderful in my life to deserve a kid like him. He smiled, grabbed my face with his hands, and said, "Oh, Mom. You could have done nothing to deserve it. That's how God's grace works. He blessed you because He want...

Use What you Have

In 1991 and 1992, I lost both my grandparents. They were my heroes and were one of the only constants I had other than my immediate family. As a military brat, I moved on average every two years so these two lovely gems were the part of our standard summer vacations when we would always come back to Oklahoma to visit. I'll never forget each time we'd pull down my grandparent's tree-lined street and into their driveway how I yearned to escape from our beat-up old blue station wagon. Immediately, I'd hop out, run up the driveway, and land in my grandmother's soft comforting arms as she patiently waited in her doorway. Smells of a home-cooked meal and frigid air would waft through, as we crossed into the front room.  If you're wondering why the memory of frigid air would ever register.  Well, spend one summer in Oklahoma and you'll know how welcoming cold air is.  It's just as amazing as my grandmother's fresh-baked homemade rolls or her green jello ...

Facing Redemption to release in September

So those of you who've been asking for a while --- wait no longer! It took me a bit longer than expected,  as I have a full-time job and a family to watch over.  Whew.  It's been a bit of a journey as my former publisher left a very bad taste in my mouth, but I won't get into details here. Let's just say I'm happy to have a new path that will give me what I need. Facing Redemption will release September 15th, and I'll have a book launch party in OKC at Sauced. If you're in OKC, I'd love to have you.  Just email me at kimberlymckayauthor@gmail.com so I can keep an accurate headcount. We'll have a drawing for some door prizes, one being a free book with some other pretty cool items bundled in. So, if you've wondered whatever became of Timothy and Chastity... If you're dying to know if Chastity read John's letter... Or if you're interested in knowing more about the rest of the story... It's all coming soon. Below is...

BOOMER SOONER! I used to attend the games with my husband before my son was born. We got season tickets the season before I was pregnant.  Then, motherhood hit and football was something I could watch from home, as my husband made the trek to Norman. Being at home with my little one was more my speed. Now that he's five, I'm ready to get a sitter and get back to the games. Next season, we'll get an extra ticket to make it a family event for the three of us. Even though it's already a huge family event. My husband, sister, brother-in-law, and mother-in-law all go in on a bunch of tickets so that we all can cheer on our team. My husband's first love after his family, of course, is sports. Since this was his birthday weekend, I figured it would be a perfect game to attend with him and my sis. The weather was awesome. The Sooners kicked big time TCU butt. And my son had a great time at his Nana's house, while we kicked it in the stadium....

Worn Out 'Man'

This weekend kicks off a lot of things most notably is the end of summer. Kids are back in school, the leaves will start turning, and football season is upon us! Thousands of men and women across the country will trek to their stadiums, or safely cheer from their couch, and pursue the football spirit for yet another season. My husband, one of those who faithfully never misses a game, has season tickets to OU games. Today is their first game, which he coincidentally has to work at. He's the promotions director, for a local company in town, which has an event in Norman at every home game. So not only does he have to get down there extremely early, but then he'll stay the whole game and then fight the traffic for the long drive home. Each year I feel like a football widow. This year that's going to intensify with his new responsibilities on game days. Although I also cheer my teams on, OU and the Washington Redskins, I'm definitely not one of those who has to c...

Sisterhood

Image
Each day I'm blessed to work for my company. Not only do I work for a great group of people, but I get the opportunity to work with my sister. She is one of a kind. Not only is she my best friend, but she's my servicing manager. If it weren't for her I wouldn't have made this far in my career. She's my backbone and an awesome trainer!

Interactive Participation Needed Please

Hey all, I'm doing a little market research for a project and need your opinion on how you personally would handle this situation. It is not a real situation, but it relates to a project I'm working on. So think of it as a real situation as it applies to you, then please tell me how you would respond. If I don't provide an answer that would suitably fit you, respond with your own choice. **** Imagine that you've been without knowing your father your whole life. He is an unknown, someone your mother never would talk about. This biological link to your life is a void in your heart. In fact, you've been told he was dead. **** Secondly imagine, upon going through some items in a trunk or an attic you find clues to your heritage and evidence that your father is alive. You immediately research this new family tree, as it's what you've been missing your whole life. You find out that your father is not the ideal father figure you'd always hoped...
