7th Grade Essay Over Tone Starring Donald Trump

So my kid wrote an original story tonight for his English class, and I just had to share it.  Courtesy of Lil' T - here you go: The Menacing, Suspenseful Story of...                                     DONALD TRUMP                 It was a dark and stormy morning… What did you expect? A dark and stormy night?   Come on, I’m more original than that! Wow. Just wow. Anyway, It was a dark and stormy morning. When a group of kids went to Donald Trump’s house to do research for their horror game in the making, ‘5 nights at Donald Trump’s’. When they crept to the house, it had creaked and groaned. Then, the doors mysteriously opened. And when they went in, the doors behind them disappeared. (What did you expect? For them...

Bar Fight Anyone?

The things my kid comes up with amaze me on a daily basis.  His little mind spins with humorous quips and quirks.   Today, after church, he pulled me aside and said in the funniest voice, " Hey, Mom! Want to know a really good line for when you get in a bar fight?" I'm thinking -  just when does he think I'll get into a bar  fight? But whatever ... I'll play.  So I say, " Um, sure." He then held up his fists and took a defensive pose, and said, "I'm gonna knock your Bud Lights out!" I cracked up, to which he said, "Yeah, I know. Right?  My brain comes up with the most interesting things." All I could think of was that might have come in handy in my '20s. Hopefully, in my '40s, I won't need his comically sage advice.  Have a great day!!

Last month, a close friend asked me to talk to her eighth grade lit students on the basics of getting published.  I was honored and happy to get the chance to inspire young minds. I expected a few crazy kids, as not everyone is thrilled to talk about books or writing them.  However, I was pleasantly surprised to find quite a few that were genuinely excited to be a part of the guest lecture. There were a few aspiring writers in each class, and there was enough class participation to create an exciting experience for all. The thing I loved most was the thoughtful questions.  I expected the basics, like ... how do you come up with ideas to write ... what made you want to be a writer ... etc. These kids were insightful and asked things like, 'After editing how much came out of your original story?'  'How long did it take you to finish each book?'  'How did you come up with cover concepts?'  These were deep and thoughtful kids (for the most part...

Lil' T's Commercial Debut

I thought you all would like to see some of my son's latest work. He's the inner-child voice-over actor. So you won't see him in the commercial, but you'll hear his voice. I think he did very very well. I've got a talented little guy!

Marchies and so forth...

When I was little I had my pretend friends. It eventually narrowed down to one... Kai'm, which sounds like Kay-I'm. I think I used my own name, Kim, and basically, took the hard K and the I'm and made my name into one. Kai'm was my constant companion. So much so, that during one of our moves, which we did every two to three years, my mom told me that she was locking up the empty house and leaving her inside. 'Kai'm was not to be coming with us.' After driving a few seconds down the road, I screamed, "STOP!" My mom screeched on the brakes, almost causing an accident, and asked what it was. I told her that Kai'm was swinging in the trees, trying to catch up to us. I remember her pushing the gas harder, saying that Kai'm was definitely staying behind. That was the last I saw of my pretend friend. I don't remember missing her after that. Besides, I knew she wasn't really real, but she was real for me when I needed her...
