He Sees YOU

In reading Luke 5 today - here is what hit me. When Jesus performed the miracle - the gathering of fish so abundant that the fishermen's net broke. The even was clearly overwhelming to those around him. After all, they had fished all night with nothing to show for it. Some days, I can relate to this - working so hard to yield little to no results. Then, when God glances my way with a miracle that is so effortless for Him, I'm humbled at the ease that it is given. Although thankful, my first thought is that I am not worthy. Just like the first disciples, then fishermen, who said, "Go away from me, Lord. I am a sinful man." Yet, Jesus loved and chose them anyway - just like me ... just like you. If you're working so hard that you're at a loss today, know He sees you, He loves you, and He has you.

Running For Someone's Life

Run for your life! It's a common phrase.  We've all heard it.  It means to get the heck out of dodge to save your own skin. However, since a friend of mine took a personal pledge to save lives in third world countries, by running four marathons over a course of four consecutive days, that phrase has a whole new meaning. Let me introduce you to Katie, a very compassionate and driven woman. I saw her at church today, hobbling ... suffering from every step she took, to catch up with her family.  Anyone, from the outside ... not knowing her journey, would never know she just ran from Tulsa to Oklahoma City in four days.  They would think she was an invalid. I'm sure you're thinking, 'why would anyone put themselves through that?' ... 'why would anyone abuse their body like that?' Ever hear that song by Matthew West, called Do Something ?   Katie gets those lyrics wholeheartedly.   She couldn't stand by one more day without doing somet...

From Tornado's to Nuggets

This time of year it's tornado after storm after tornado after ... well, you get the point. It rained all day yesterday non-stop. And in the evening, when driving my son to church I noticed how crazy the clouds looked. They were separating on the lower levels and rolling around. The color of the sky wasn't green, which is an indicator of perfect tornado time, but it was 'off.' Right before I pulled out of our neighborhood, the tornado sirens started blaring and I knew I had to head back home to catch the forecast and wait it out in our closet. My son is really good at playing off his emotions. He's not one to show fear unless it's really bad. I made light of how fun it would be to build a tent in the closet and we tried to have the most fun we could. Unfortunately, I still had to listen to the weatherman to make sure I knew exactly where the twister was and could be touching down, and what kid wouldn't freak with that intense language spouting ...

My Son's Wife

If any of you read my blog about my son's little girlfriend, you'll remember how replaced I felt. It was so sweet seeing him adore this beautiful little girl. I felt I was doing a good job teaching how to treat a lady. He's affectionate and funny...a great catch if I don't say so myself. Well, he's four and a half. Up until now he's at least always said that he wanted to marry 'Mommy' when he got older. I knew that would change someday, but I didn't know it would come so soon. After getting home from Pump It Up last night, he couldn't stop talking about his little girlfriend. They even held hands when they'd go from one room to the next. Sickening...I tell you! Last night, he told me point-blank: Toni's gonna be my wife someday, Mom! ...not Mommy...MOM...and very matter of fact too. I said, "She is huh? She's awfully pretty." He said, "Yeah, and she's got room in her heart for Jesus!" Ah...

Shower time humor

Before I go on my trip, I will leave you with this story. Of course, my son is always serious, but I always find him so funny. Like all loving parents, I'm biased. Last night, my son was taking his shower. I detached the shower spray to hold and shower himself off with. I let him stand in there on his own for a while to gain more independence, but I always stay within earshot just in case. As I heard him singing, I asked if he was doing okay. My husband walked in and whispered, "You'll never guess what he's in there doing!" I raised an eyebrow in wait and he laughed, "He's got the showerhead turned toward his chest, and he told me that he was giving Jesus a drink because Jesus was thirsty!" I shook my head...there my son goes again. Thinking so literally. Of course, the water should be shooting at his heart...because Jesus lives there!
