A Neverending Song - Mow the Lawn

Image
So my husband, who's in the broadcast industry, always in on the lookout for funny commercials. He's got the silliest sense of humor, which sometimes cracks me up and other times - just has me rolling my eyes. A couple days ago he came home, popped open his lap top, and giggled while typing in the youtube website address.   "Kim, come here you've got to see this." I sigh, knowing it's a gamble on wether it's worth it to pop over to view his latest find. Here's what he found: I admit it was kind of funny the first time I saw it.  It took me a couple of seconds to catch on, but then he started on in his usual methodic mode by playing it again and again.  And because he was shaking hard and laughing loud, my son had to come see what all the commotion was about. This is something that will go right over my son's head so I wasn't too worried.   Except now all I hear is this stupid 'mow the lawn' song around my house. ...

Tough Choices

So my son cried yesterday and today when I dropped him to VBS. I usually volunteer on Sunday's and Wednesday's for all the kid functions/activities and stay with him. He doesn't understand why mommy can't be with him this week. All the other mommies stay and teach, why can't I? I know that he's still only five and will cry from time to time, but I'm not used to it as he's usually pretty laid back. Between that and having to spank him yesterday (in the doctor's waiting room--in front of six people), I feel like a bad mom. I tried saying no to him for his bad behavior, then I tried a time-out in the doctor's chair, and when it didn't work...I took him to the bathroom and lightly smacked his little bottom. To which he replied, OW, don't hit me , loud enough for all to hear in the waiting room. He did that on purpose for the benefit of the older ladies waiting in the office...yeah, that was fun. That's the first time I've h...

From Tornado's to Nuggets

This time of year it's tornado after storm after tornado after ... well, you get the point. It rained all day yesterday non-stop. And in the evening, when driving my son to church I noticed how crazy the clouds looked. They were separating on the lower levels and rolling around. The color of the sky wasn't green, which is an indicator of perfect tornado time, but it was 'off.' Right before I pulled out of our neighborhood, the tornado sirens started blaring and I knew I had to head back home to catch the forecast and wait it out in our closet. My son is really good at playing off his emotions. He's not one to show fear unless it's really bad. I made light of how fun it would be to build a tent in the closet and we tried to have the most fun we could. Unfortunately, I still had to listen to the weatherman to make sure I knew exactly where the twister was and could be touching down, and what kid wouldn't freak with that intense language spouting ...

Worn thin

Today I feel as if I've earned my blog name, wornoutwoman. You can read more about it here. I'm in desperate need of sleep, but cannot complain as my husband hasn't slept since Thursday. Today we visited the health fair and my mom and I got our glucose and cholesterol checked. I came in above average in my good levels and way below the bad levels, so I'm very healthy. Yay! When my son saw my mom's finger pricked, he was fascinated with the whole process. The nurse gave him the band-aid to put on her finger. She called him her little doctor and told him she'd be his nurse when he grew up. He was very impressed with himself. When it came time to prick my finger, he started crying because he couldn't stand to see me bleeding. He just teared up and pouted. It made me so sad. He's had a lot to deal with this weekend, again you'll have to read the post link up above to read more about that. The nurse asked her little doctor if he'd ...

Cephzil Attack

The last two weeks have been a trial for our little household. My son started with a chest cough, which moved into bronchitis. He allergically reacted to his first anti-biotics, and now he's having bumps on his upper lip with the second. Granted he's only had it happen twice in two days, but I thought it was worthy of a doctor's call. He, however, called me and told me to continue on the Cephzil. Thankfully he's been okay so far, with the exception of acting like he's on drugs. Well, yeah, he is on drugs, but this med is seriously knocking his attitude out of whack. Everything is dramatic, and he cries or throws a tantrum at the drop of a hat. He can't make up his mind, so one second he'll be happy then the next he'll be screaming at me. I know when kids are sick you're not supposed to use typical discipline when it comes to behavioral issues, but seriously....I'm about ready to pull my hair out. My sweet child HIT my mom yesterday a...

Next month my son will turn five. When asked how old he is for the last four months he's told everyone 'four and a HALF.' Suddenly, in the last few weeks, his answer has turned to 'four and THREE QUARTERS.' Now how he figured that out I'm not quite sure, but he's always been my amazing child. At the age of two, he could look in my eyes and tell when I was troubled. I'll never forget a time when I did my best to put on a happy disposition but was troubled and he just knew. He's always been in tune with me, and in response, he told me that everything would be okay. His loving pat on my face and his tender glance into my eyes had me believing him. He's this child who has an amazingly pure and wise spirit, which God has blessed him with. He's this child whose brain is always ticking, trying to put it all together...and he usually does and better than most of the adults around him. I'm blown away at how fast he's grown up and ...

All about daddy...

In the last couple of weeks, my son and husband have been as thick as thieves. He has to wear the same clothes as him...do the same things as him...and be with him 24-7. It's so nice to see them rolling around on the floor, playing trucks, and watching sports together. My husband is really enjoying this age. My son is past the fragile age...past the baby stage (sniff)...and is growing up to be just like his daddy. He even has little black 'Adidas' basketball shorts that are almost identical to my husband's. Each afternoon when I bring him home, that's the first thing he puts on. I have to fight him each morning to make him put regular clothes on for school. He thinks he can wear them every day -- all day. It doesn't matter to him that it's 37 degrees outside. This morning he woke up and called my husband at work. He's got his and my cell phone numbers memorized (he has since he was 3). He chastised my husband for leaving for work without ...

Calling for Parent's Input

Okay...I knew it had to happen! My perfect little child, who has been a dream for four and a half years old, is now having disciplinary issues at school. The problem is that he's a little smarter than most kids his age, and although he's not excluded from them in any way, it's harder to communicate when you know how to count to two-thousand and all the others are learning to count to ten. There tends to be a gap. This one child, in his class, who is as smart is obviously going to be an interest to my son. My son feels a bond with him because they can talk on the same level, which I originally was happy about. Except for the fact that this child is not one that makes good choices for himself, and is leading my son down the path to destruction. He and my son are too aggressive with other kids on the playground, and they aren't listening to instruction. His teacher actually called me at home last month. I was shocked that in PRE-K I got a call from his teacher ...
