checkin you out...

So when did it happen? When did my son turn into a teenager at the tender age of six - almost seven. The day before yesterday we went to see the SQUEAKQUEL with Alvin and the Chipmunks . It was hilarious to see my son laugh and blurt out kid commentary throughout the film. I love watching him giggle at something. His face lights up. However his face lit up for an entirely different reason earlier that day, and I almost lost it. I tried not to giggle, but he was too cute. We were waiting for our friends to join us at the theater when a young blonde seven-ish little girl walked by. I noticed her doing a double-take at my son and giving him a shy sideways look. I looked down at him and said, 'Dude she was totally checking you out!' He said with a wide grin, 'And I was checking her out mom!' I asked him what that meant and his response? 'It's when you're seeing if you'd make a good couple with someone.' OH. MY. GOSH. First - I st...

His first crush

My son never has a problem finding a pretty girl. They chase him and he loves it. He's five and such a little ladies man. Today, was his first day of Kindergarten. I'm really proud of myself for not bawling my eyes out, like some moms were. My little guy is so confident and ready to start school. It made it easier for me. This afternoon when I picked him up, I asked the usual questions to inquire about his day. Open-ended questions that led to conversation instead of yes or no questions. Me: "What did you do on the playground today?" Little T: "Chased girls..." (with a smile) "I looooove to chase girls!" Me: "Any in particular? How about the girl who sits next to you? Ashlee?" Little T: "Ooooo. She's so pretty mom. I don't want to come home. I just wanna be with her right now!" Me: (eyebrows up) "Really?" Little T: "Oh yea...

Love Notes

Image
My son is at an age, where the boys and girls are already separating into groups of the same sex but still notice one another. He has a gorgeous little four-year-old girlfriend, who used to be in his class last session. Now they go to separate schools, so (sigh) they only see one another from afar at birthday parties. This past weekend, we attended yet another birthday party. I called his girlfriend's mom to see if she'd be there, and let her know that my son would be attending. This knowledge sparked this adorable little girl to write my son a love note. See it above...she drew him and her twice under the sun together. She wrote their names, but I cropped those out due to my son's and any child's privacy that I write about on my blogs. It was the sweetest thing ever to see her hand it to him. I wondered if he'd respond in kind and smile sweetly at her. He just held on to it, without opening it and returned to making his party favor bag with the other...

My Son's Wife

If any of you read my blog about my son's little girlfriend, you'll remember how replaced I felt. It was so sweet seeing him adore this beautiful little girl. I felt I was doing a good job teaching how to treat a lady. He's affectionate and funny...a great catch if I don't say so myself. Well, he's four and a half. Up until now he's at least always said that he wanted to marry 'Mommy' when he got older. I knew that would change someday, but I didn't know it would come so soon. After getting home from Pump It Up last night, he couldn't stop talking about his little girlfriend. They even held hands when they'd go from one room to the next. Sickening...I tell you! Last night, he told me point-blank: Toni's gonna be my wife someday, Mom! ...not Mommy...MOM...and very matter of fact too. I said, "She is huh? She's awfully pretty." He said, "Yeah, and she's got room in her heart for Jesus!" Ah...
