Now that Santa's come...

We've had such a full few days of drum playing, hockey stick swinging, lincoln log building, and leapster gaming. I think my son was so very well taken care of this year. The first thing he did on Christmas morning was sneak in my room and whisper, "Hey I see a drum set by the tree...and it's red! Come see!" He couldn't contain himself and it was so sweet to see his excitement. He's been playing for three days straight, and I'm loving it! My husband, who's also a drummer, has taught him some different drum rolls and beats. He's trying to play them the right way instead of just banging on them. He's so into being just like his daddy, who happens to love Phil Collins. Since I never put my son's face on my blogs, I substituted Phil's for my son's. Little T (my son's nickname in blog land) also got some boxers just like his daddy. When we took him to see his aunt today, the first thing he did was pull his pants down ...

A joyful heart

All parents wonder if we're doing it right. We wonder if we're screwing it up....especially with our first child. My last post is a testament to that first hand, and many of you left me some wonderful comments either at my blog or on some of the communities I'm a part of like: cre8buzz , mybloglog, or myspace . So thanks to you all for your feedback. Each of you had something insightful and supportive to say, which really gave me some insight into the rest of your lives and your parenting. I wanted to give you an update on the chart and it's five lines. Although it is initially what got my son's attention, it's not what's really working for him (note: all five lines are still up).  Each day as he's come home from school, with a smiley on his hand, he's been getting a huge smiley on his chart for the category: OBEYING AT SCHOOL/RIGHT CHOICES. As soon as he's picked up, he can't wait to tell me all the right choices he's made a...

rat a tat tat

My son and I were watching a little TV tonight when my husband came home with a surprise for him. He had stopped by to get himself a new pair of drumsticks for his band and bought my son his own kid-sized pair. Currently, they're both in the living room and all I hear is rat tap tap tap....bang bang bang. My husband is teaching my son how to keep a beat in succession of different drum rolls. I'm pretty impressed with how awesome my son is doing. Two weeks ago after my husband was cleaning up the stage, after he and his group were done playing, my little boy ran up to him to check out his drum set. I turned to talk to some friends and the next thing I heard was a very cool drum set. I thought my husband was teaching my son a little about the drums, by doing a drum roll. I turned to watch, and it was my little boy on the drums...making his own sounds! Wow! Were we all surprised to watch my little one up there putting his own beats down, sounding like a real drummer....
