Designated Survivor Killed Off by the F-Bomb

Image
My father always said that when people use swear words, it's because they're not able to hold an intelligent conversation. I never understood how true that was until I grew up and became a mom later in life. First, let me state this loud and clear, I don't judge people if they do curse. In my younger years, I was known to let a few fly here and there - and as a military brat, I've heard my fair share. But, as a writer, I've learned that the truly gifted writers are the ones who can spin a story with wit, charm, and fantastic banter without using curse words as a crutch. And, that's what they are - a crutch - a filler and a crass one at that. The above scenario - the writing with wit and all that charm is what Designator Survivor used to be for its first two seasons. It was a great show I could watch with my teen and trust me, teens are not TV watchers. They're on Youtube or playing video games. Watching TV is the last thing on their agenda. For my guy...

New Books to Release This Year

It's interesting to see a story evolve and characters grow, as one writes a book.  In writing my third book, Coming Home, I have grown leaps and bounds as an author.  I've been stretched and refined, which I think will result in wonderful things for this book. Initially, my intent was to weave a great storyline around Anne La Sal, a character from my first two books, Finding Kylie & Facing Redemption.  In both books, she is the ever-supportive best friend who is developed more in Facing Redemption to garner the character to withstand her own story. Coming Home was originally going to be a dual storyline about Anne and her estranged sister Grace, however, I started to fall in love with Grace's character so much that I decided to give her own story with Saving Grace. These four books are the Forgiveness Series. That being said I've got two books releasing this year... Coming Home & Saving Grace. They will release at the time so that readers do not have to w...

That's What Makes the World Go Round ...

Thankfully it takes a lot of different personalities in life, or our existence would become very mundane.  Have you heard the saying, 'It's not for everyone?'.  I'm sure you have, as we all have different opinions on matters that are formed by our own backgrounds and experiences. Is an atheist going to appreciate a preacher's point of view? Probably not - and vice versa. However, I have a few atheist friends, who although they may not agree with my stance on faith, appreciate my choice to have faith. And I, in return, appreciate their choice not to.   Most of the people in my life are giving people, who see that it takes all kinds to run this world of ours. So no matter what their lifestyle or beliefs, they know I appreciate them for them without reservation and expect the same respect in return. This relationship with a person of differing views isn't typical throughout the world though.  Usually, when polar opposites have differing opinions, there wil...

Life's Ups and Downs

I've not been posting a lot - as a lot has been going on that has kept me from the computer. And to be quite honest, my computer isn't really up to date, so I use my phone a lot more than my keyboard. With iPhones auto-type issues ... let's just say I'm not completely comfortable letting my fingers type a blog from my phone. Since I had a few minutes today, I wanted to share something that I hope will evoke something meaningful for you. Recently, a few doors have been closed on me ... doors I've been knocking on for a while and a few new ones. But to top it all off, a large project I've been working on is just taking a lot longer than I'd hoped for. Every time I think we're moving forward, we've taken two steps back. And, it's left me feeling like ... well, Ummm - like that live-in girlfriend, who wants to get married, but is told 'why marry when you get the milk for free?' I'm choosing to review the times when I was at ...

Update on Sequel to Finding Kylie

Image
So in the last four years, I've been involved in two writing projects - co-writing the screenplay of Finding Kylie, and the sequel, Facing Redemption. To keep up to date with any of my current events, it's best to check here on my FB page . Currently, my writing partner, film producer, John Schwab, is currently casting for the hard read of Finding Kylie.  Let me explain what a hard read is so there's no confusion... Although the script is in front of some influential filmmakers, it is not sold... yet.  A hard read is just as is sounds. We're casting actors to read the script for our own purposes, to make sure the story does what we feel it will do - not just on paper but fleshed out with real people. So when I say we're casting for the hard read - this will be for our purposes only. Call it a learning curve to see if the script lives up to the potential we know it has.  Since John lives in the UK, I will skype in for the hard read, which he will also t...

so here's the deal ...

I promise I've not been out of commission just running around like crazy, which has kept me from sitting let alone blogging. Life since October has been overloaded with everything retail, as I took a full-time job. Unfortunately, this left me unable to creatively unload, which means I've not completely finished my sequel yet. But ... it's almost done. The only thing creative I've been able to do is to take some photography jobs here and there. I've not had much time off from retail-land to work on my company, but I still get enough work that I feel creatively charged. Here's an example of my last commercial shoot. This is one of many billboards that line the highways in Oklahoma City. I love that my work is posted up for everyone to see. Last week I had headshots for some actors who are talking to some L.A. casting directors for 'Sonny With A Chance'.  That was a treat to shoot those pics for their meeting. Next on the docket is a cale...

Redemption - Book Style

Do you know how hard it is to write a story from a point of view that you'd never want? My first book, Finding Kylie, is now out which was from my point of view from 'my' what if story in life. Now the sequel is my task, and it's from the opposing side or point of view. Not that I can't do it, because I've made some extra-ordinary headway in the last two days, but it's definitely interesting to put myself in someone's shoes that want nothing to do with. So that I don't give anything away in my current book, I won't say too much except that the main character's name is Chastity. She finds some things out in her life and about some family ties that she's not sure she wants or now needs to know. This book takes her on her journey in many ways to discover about life and love through her mother's hidden journals, found after her mother's, Kylie's, funeral. This new book, Facing Redemption, is from a totally different van...

When I grow up....

Image
I've been stuck in this place lately wondering what I want to be when I grow up...professionally speaking. I've been in sales my whole life essentially since I was five years old, working it at garage sales. I'd assume the sale and direct people to what I thought they needed. This is why I think we've always done so well whenever we have one because we've got a professional garage saler in our midst...ME. Sales are what I'm good at, but it's not what in my heart. They say to do what you love, but I'm always drawn to sales because I can excel at it and provide for the family. Lately, though I've not been excelling at it. I've been stuck in some weird middle ground, where I don't care anymore. I've lost my drive and am left wondering what I should be doing. Doing what I love, writing and photography makes me happy. So here's what I've decided... I have a feeling that my book will be getting published soon, as a small p...

Family Circle

My husband is such a sweet guy. He was having a snack and picked up my latest mag that was mailed to us...Family Circle. Every once in awhile he'll surprise me with some knowledge he'll pick up on handy house tips or kid rearing, and I'll ask him where he heard that from. He just smiles like he's the expert, and I ask if he read it in one of my magazines. "Maybe!" He tilts his head at me, not wanting to admit he pays any attention to them. Tonight he brought me my Family Circle mag, which I had yet to crack open. "They've got a writing contest...You should enter." My husband is one of the coolest guys I know, bad habits and all...I love him to pieces. To not only read these girly mags (not those kinds people) but then find something in them to benefit me. I just think that's pretty awesome. (Again not those kinds of girly mags) Although I'm half a chapter away from the end of my manuscript and trying to figure out how to en...
