This week...

So if you didn't notice...I've taken a few days off from this blog. I can't maintain everything, all the time. Although my son and husband think I do. 😇 My sweet companion of fourteen years had to be put down this week . It was the hardest thing I've ever done. My son is coping okay...he cried again today before taking him to school. I know I've had to stop myself when looking for my pup outside, wondering why I didn't see him in the yard. I've stopped myself from looking for Hershey on the floor when I get up to pee in the middle of the night to keep from tripping over him. Hershey loved to follow me everywhere I went. He was so much a part of my day in small ways I didn't even recognize until now. Now my son is experiencing the same thing. He put his plate down on the couch this morning, mid breakfast. And reached to pick it up, so Hershey wouldn't eat his food. He quickly put it back down and started crying. "I miss him, M...

Goodbye Larry

Yesterday,  Larry Lee Lenson , my son's hermit crab passed on. My son went to the bathroom, where Larry's cage sits, to fill the sink with bottled water for his bath and noticed that he was 'dangly.' He carried Larry to me saying, "Mommy, his legs dangling funny." Well, his little hermit crab body had fallen apart. I didn't want to totally traumatize my little boy when it was obvious to us both that Larry was dead. What do you say except the truth in this type of instance? He asked me what was happening to his crab, and I wasn't going to lie. I gave him the truth...that Larry's heart stopped beating and he, in fact, was dead. Although my son takes everything in stride - he is still an extremely compassionate little guy. I knew he was inte...

My best friend is missing

Image
I write this in utter sadness. My sidekick, the one thing I could always count on....is missing! My 13-year-old chocolate lab, Hershey, was let out of my yard tonight after I left home. 6:00 CST or any time after, someone opened our gate and let out my loyal companion. Here it is almost midnight and he's not anywhere to be found. Hershey is obviously very old, but can't get half a block without panting and straining. He usually has to turn back home, because he is too tired to go any further. Currently, his fur is shaved short for the summer. So he looks like a greyhound with brown fur, instead of a chocolate lab. He would never make it past my neighbor's house without turning back for my porch. He would NEVER not come home. He also needs his medication or he will get really sick. We drove three neighborhoods, and I saw no signs of any animals on the road. No one claimed to see him. We called for hours with no response. It's like someone opened our g...
