Substantial Crush

My kiddo has had a crush on the same girl since 2nd grade.  On the first day he saw her, his smile lit up his face and he instantly began chatting her head off.  She was shy and was unsure about her new school and he made it his mission to befriend her and give her a great first year. In third grade, (I'll never forget this) I was rushing him out the door for school.  He was dawdling ... like he always does ... and his face transformed from everyday kid to a starstruck dreamer.  He smiled and stared out to nothing at all and said, "You know mommy ... Baby no more

Forever I'll love you...forever my baby you'll be.  This is something I used to read to my son from a book on his shelf. I've always told him that no matter how old he get, he'd always be my baby. 'because he was a man now and he didn't need his mom to walk him in.' Sigh... So as he's now eight and a half years old, I'm seeing the young man he's growing into. He's matured in so many ways, and it's time for him to grow up. It's time for those apron strings to be cut in some ways. It's with such bittersweet emotion that I let go of his hand and let him walk free from the shadow of the little baby...

I tried staying up to watch it with him, but my eyes just couldn't make it. My husband's work schedule is always crazy, but lately, it's more than that. Hmmm...this used to be about my wornoutness due to my schedule and now it's from his plus mine. My husband's erratic schedule has caused some interruptions in my sleep, to say the least. So when my son and I were on the soft comfy couch, the kind that sucks you in when you sit...it was too good to be true. My five-year-old woke me up once to make him popcorn and it was like dragging a 100-pound weight to open my eyelids and even harder to make myself get up and walk to the kitchen. After the movie was over, I woke up to silence. I didn't see my son anywhere and I wondered how long he'...
