Although this is not typically my kind of genre, I stepped outside my box to experience something new, with the Warble by Victoria Simcox.  And, am I glad I did. The Warble is a pleasant surprise in that it's not just a tale of fantasy.  It holds truth and real-life principles that are steadfast in our real lives.  The main character, Kristina, holds the pain of rejection from society or her peers.  Through her suffering, one person sees her potential and offers her a gift in the Warble - an unsuspecting metal ball that is the key to her destiny through another world - one where Kristina is labeled 'The Chosen One'. There are threads that point to God and his everlasting love in this book.  The story parallels Jesus' return and his victory over a fallen world.  Those that have the faith - will see it.  Those that don't want religion thrown in their face don't have to worry because it's so slight all you'll uncover is a really good book that off...

Run for your life! It's a common phrase.  We've all heard it.  It means to get the heck out of dodge to save your own skin. However, since a friend of mine took a personal pledge to save lives in third world countries, by running four marathons over a course of four consecutive days, that phrase has a whole new meaning. Let me introduce you to Katie, a very compassionate and driven woman. I saw her at church today, hobbling ... suffering from every step she took, to catch up with her family.  Anyone, from the outside ... not knowing her journey, would never know she just ran from Tulsa to Oklahoma City in four days.  They would think she was an invalid. I'm sure you're thinking, 'why would anyone put themselves through that?' ... 'why would anyone abuse their body like that?' The first time I saw the angry face was when my child was only four days old. He was quietly sleeping in his hospital bassinet when we had some visitors stop by to see my new precious bundle of joy. I lifted him, laid him on his back, and rubbed his belly with my fingers.  And out came the face ... You know the one!  That scrunched up - attitude throwing - mouth-puckering - frowny face that says 'leave me alone.' Awww.  Did I think it was adorable back then? Absolutely! Now here it is ... almost ten years later and I have the honor of raising such an amazing kid.  He's giving and smart, and still shows me that same frowny face - except this time he's got the pre-teen attitude to go with it.  Ah yes ... the pre-teen years are among us in our household, and boy it is like a smack in the face. The standard phrase I got when I was pregnant was, “Oh get your sleep now while you can!” or they might say, “Good luck you’re going to need it!” Even the important people in my life never truly passed on enough wisdom for me to have a handle on how it’s supposed to work. I always wondered why there wasn’t a handbook that will tell you things like: When your son is potty trained, stay alert. He’ll still shoot the pea out between the lid and the toilet when he sits down. Have a rag handy for quick catches! or No matter how hard you try to get your child to sleep through the night (and they finally do)…..don’t relax just yet. Then the nightmare phase is coming and it starts all over again. All I have to say is thank God for my mom. She may not have had any written instructions for me but she taught me the basic foundation by example. OH y...
